VENICE

5 Best Attractions in Venice, Italy

Venice is one of the most famous cities in Europe and is highly popular with tourists for good reason. As well as being one of the most romantic cities in the world. Venice also has some excellent attractions and below we detail 5 of our favourites.

Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari

In a city where there are a number of fabulous churches, this one stands out as being one of the best. The exterior, despite being one of the tallest buildings in the city, is rather Canals in Veniceplain, but the interior contains stunning decor which makes it a must visit.

Campo dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo

Visit this historic square in the centre of the city and you can experience a variety of attractions in one go including imposing structures and historical buildings.

Grand Canal

This is one of the major waterways in the city and is perhaps the best known due to its history as one of the key traffic routes in the city, the famous Gondolas which float along it and the glorious views which can be gained both of and from it.

Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute

This Roman Catholic Church truly is a feat of architecture which will genuinely dazzle your imagination. This 17th century building has pride of place on the Grand Canal and is equally as inspiring at night time as it is during the day. The building is Baroque in style and contains various references to the great plague of 1630 which inspired its creation.

Boat Tours

Travelling around Venice by boat is perhaps the activity most associated with the city. There are very few cities in the world where you can meander around the various areas of the city on water, and doing so in Venice allows you to see much of the great architecture which lines the city’s lagoons. You can go on a group tour or hire your own boat for added comfort. You might be tempted to try a gondola ride but this can be quite expensive thus a boat tour can sometimes be a much more affordable option.
